Chapter 11: Heroes and Monsters
John is back, once again, to aggravate and recap!
This episode begins with the appearance of the Grimm dragon (Dragon squeee!) at the head of the flying Grimm army. Ruby is there with her scythe, taking out who she can, but none other than Neo(I call her Ice-cream Lady) is there, snapping a photo and sending it to Roman inside, alerting him to Ruby's presence. We can all see where this is going...
Snap to Blake and Adam. Adam is taunting Blake, asking her if she's going to run away again. He continues, speaking of their past plans for the 'revolution'. As he is about to kill a helpless opponent, Blake attacks him, starting a battle that will be filled with all kinds of mayhem, we hope. Of course, we then cut away again.
We are now in the courtyard, with the students battling Grimm as well as the hacked Atlas mecha. We can see that the battle is not going very well for them at all, until Coco tells Velvet to break out her weapon. And the viewers all screamed in delight as we finally find out what the fuck it is! It turns out, her photography captures the image and abilities of other weapons, allowing her to use all of them, for a time. We are then treated to Velvet laying waste to several of the heavy mechs.
It doesn't last, of course, and Velvet is struck down by another mech. In her defense, Weiss manages to summon a familiar sword. Anyone remember the RWBY White Trailer?! That's what I'm thinking it is, sportsfans! Despite this moment of badassery, Another mech comes running onto the scene, much to everyone's, especially Sun's, chagrin.
We find ourselves back with Ruby, atop the hijacked ship. She is doing her level best to fight off Neo and Roman, but it is not going very well. Despite this, we do find out a little more about Roman. Mostly, that he has been hired to do this job, and that he "can't afford to lose." His employers plan to change the world, obviously through violent means. While Roman is distracted by his own monologuing, Ruby manages to take Neo out of the fight by deploying her umbrella, which flies her off the ship, leaving it a one-on-one battle. And while Roman is busy beating the crap out of Ruby still, he is eaten by a Grimm. Yay!
Cut to our Guardians, doing what they do, and a reveal of General Assface's cyborg body. He then proceeds to fucking obliterate a street full of his hacked mechs. I still don't like him, but I can admit that he's a powerful ally and he seems to realize that he fucked up. Like, in a major way. He better spend the next season making up for it. Anyway, Qrow then shows off his own skills by bifurcating a Grimm about to take out General Iron. The destruction of his ships also causes the mechs to deactivate, saving everyone a lot of trouble.
Jaune, Pyrrha, and Ozpin run to General Iron's device in the academy sub-levels, hoping to transfer the Fall Lady's powers to Pyrrha before it's too late. Jaune stands guard while Pyrrha gets into the pod, and we all start to breathe a sigh of relief. A quick scene change shows Adam doing his evil whining at Blake while he beats the crap out of her. What a great relationship. Adam then tells her that he will do everything in his power to destroy everything she loves, starting with Yang, who has made her appearance. Another cut to Ozpin, activating the pods containing Amber and Pyrrha. He waits for Pyrrha's informed, verbal consent, and the process begins. As he apologizes, Amber is quite suddenly struck with an arrow, shot by Cinder.
Back with Adam, he very quickly stabs Blake, causing Yang to enter her rage. As Blake pleads with Adam to stop, we are all filled with a horrible sense of impending despair. We are very quickly treated to it. As Yang leaps forward, Adam chops off her right arm. Another quick cut to the vaults below Beacon as Amber dies, and her power, unsurprisingly, transfer to Cinder. Ozpin tells Pyrrha and Jaune to run, and stands off with the new Fall Lady. Meanwhile, Blake uses a shadow double to distract Adam, and escapes with Yang in her arms. Back with Cinder, as she faces Ozpin, she mentions his arrogance in hiding everything below Beacon, and hinting that there was another woman pulling the strings in this plot.
And with all of those bombshells, the episode ends, leaving us horrified and sad. Just sad. But you know things have to get worse before they get better. You hope, anyway. If you're like me, you think things can't really get much worse than this. But hold on to your buttholes. Cause there's still one more episode left is Volume 3.
