Game mods are something I've gotten into the last few years or so. My general knowledge about them was that they could be used for cheating, and that was about it. And they can be used to cheat, this is true. But they can also enhance your game, make it more difficult, even make it more fun. Especially make it more fun.
Really, what you're doing is tailoring the game to your likes and dislikes. Sometimes, that means adding in a bunch of new hairstyles to make your Inquisitor Lavellan really pretty.
It can also mean transforming certain monsters into Macho Man Randy Savage.
It can also mean turning your game into a completely different game.
When I built my gaming PC, I was most excited about finally exploring mods for Skyrim. I've been playing Bethesda games for a long while now, and those are the best to mod. The company even releases tool to make modding easier! It's friggin awesome!
Now, some of you may be saying, "But wait, John, I don't have an awesome gaming PC! I can run stuff like that!" And you'd be right. If there weren't also mods for that! Any change to the game, even ones that make the different meshes and models easier for older computers to generate, is a mod. There are pages of mods specifically to improve game quality in regards to older or weaker PCs.
I know people use mods to make playing the game easier. That's fine. I know folks who make their games extremely difficult to play. And that's also fine. There are even mods that...heh...well...
And, I mean, that's not really hurting anyone, so that's fine too. A little skeevy, maybe, but fine. However you use your mods, or if you don't use them at all, it's all good. But don't be afraid. It's relatively easy to mod your games out. There are websites dedicated to making it easy and safe to change your game however you desire.
So plug in your controllers, lads, and get ready to play some video games, ladies, cause mods are even here for consoles! Yessiree bob, you can now mod console games, if you have the newer platforms! I don't have them, so I know little to nothing about it, but I'm super excited for everyone!
